I am here to help others achieve an optimal immune system through nutrition and lifestyle changes. When the body is operating optimally, the immune system is operating optimally thereby primed and ready to work for you.
I was raised in a small town in southern Alberta and was a town kid surrounded by farm fields. Nutrition was not a focus back then at all as I lived with my dad and my other two siblings, and we were just lucky to have food on the table. It wasn’t until I met my husband that nutrition began to be important in my life. He was in the gym working out and competing in bodybuilding, so optimum nutrition became a huge part of our lives. Then we started having a family of our own, and I needed to nourish my family the best possible way I knew.
Fast forward 22 years, and here we are with 3 children. Within our beautiful children have come autoimmune diseases. First, it was my oldest with rheumatoid arthritis, then it was my youngest with Tourette’s, and a year later, diabetes. We learned individually what each one could eat, what foods triggered flare-ups, how to balance blood sugar, and how they all affect mental health. We all learned that it was nutritional intolerances that would lead to their inflammation and once we removed those, they were able to maintain focus and remain calm. In the end, removing processed foods and eating a whole foods diet with added healthy fats, is what moved us towards reduced inflammation, balanced blood sugars, and a positive mental state.
Then within that year came my breast cancer diagnosis. Everything was overwhelming. Cancer? How did this happen? What do I eat now? There was a lot of fear of hearing that C word. And I was so afraid to eat. After my treatments, however, I have realized my own inner strength and I have grown so much spiritually. Did you know that your thoughts can change your cells? I had no idea. But they sure changed mine.
One thing, in particular, stands out for me from my seemingly relentless doctor’s visits over the last couple of years. With diabetes, they said to just take insulin and eat whatever you want. With cancer, they said it was nothing that I did so just keep doing what I was doing. All of this just didn’t seem right. In my soul, I felt that Western allopathic medicine cannot provide all the answers for healing. Because they just don’t know enough about nutrition to optimize health.
I had an opportunity to attend the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, and it was the best thing I could have done. I learned the connection between our mind, body, and spirit. I learned more about food and was fascinated by how our body utilizes it as well as how our various body systems work together. I learned about the connection between the immune system and autoimmune disease, and between the immune system and cancer. And I learned how to utilize food as medicine to benefit health and live my best life. In the process, I also learned to have a better relationship with food. It now nourishes my soul. I am so happy that I felt in my soul years ago that there had to be more to healing - to true wellness, not just the absence of disease - than what I was being told.
Because of this deep-rooted connection of nutrition to my soul, or Sol as it evolved into, Solfull Nutrition was born. And it was time for me to share my knowledge.
