Solfull Tropical Smoothie

I love to workout fasted and to fuel my body with this delicious smoothie afterwards. Although working out fasted is not for everyone, it just works for me!

This smoothie is so refreshing and reminds me of a tropical holiday. Plus, it has the protein and carbohydrates to properly fuel my body and nourish my immune system!  It is packed with 12g of fiber to fuel my day and help with toxin elimination. It’s also high in immune system-loving vitamin C, A, calcium, iron, sodium, and potassium.

 Recipe:

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 tbsp of ground flax seed – preferably freshly ground

1 tbsp of chia seed

1 tbsp goji berry powder

1 ¼ cup of strawberries, mango, peaches (frozen)*

1 tsp freshly grated ginger

Methods: Place all ingredients in a blender and blend! Enjoy!

What are these ingredients GOOD for?

Here is a little SOLFULL info:

·         Protein powder supplies you with all the essential amino acids which are necessary to build and maintain all components of the immune system. See notes for my preference.

·         Almond milk  high in calcium, vitamin E, and vitamin D

·         Flaxseed and chia seed both contain omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, magnesium, potassium, and B vitamins. Flaxseed should be freshly ground to maximize their benefits.

·         Goji berries can be added as the whole goji berry or as a powder. Goji berries are a superfood that are high in vitamin C, fibre, iron, and Vitamin C. They are a great source of antioxidants and help boost your immune system. See note section for potential downsides.

·         Strawberries, mango, and peaches add a nice flavor while high in minerals and minerals like quercetin which is one of the most abundant flavonoids. They have high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This will help fight free radicals that help with oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and antioxidants.

·         Ginger has powerful antibacterial and antiviral properties that enhance the immune response and may combat inflammation.

NOTES:

* I love Bontanica’s perfect protein powder as it is a fermented plant protein

* This is a nice thick smoothie that will reduce hunger cravings and leave you feeling satisfied.

* If left to sit for a bit, it makes a nice pudding.

* I also mix this up with frozen mixed berries (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries), as these powerful antioxidants are high in dietary flavonoids called anthocyanins. As well as their antioxidant properties that help fight free-radicals they also offer anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-cancer benefits.

* You can also substitute almond milk for coconut milk as it is anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial.

* Goji berries – I like the New Earth Organics brand that can be purchased from a health food store.

the downside - these may interact with certain medications (like blood thinners and medications for diabetes or high blood pressure), they may trigger an allergic reaction in some people. These also contain betaine which is a compound that may be harmful to fetal health. Further research is needed to determine whether goji berries are safe during pregnancy.
